Volunteer Exchange Meeting

Closing date for community chest applications
We have £21,000 to give away in grants through the community chest. Get your applications in now! Closing date 30th Sept. Better Bedminster Community Chest
There will be another round of grant making from this local community chest. Community groups can apply for up to £1,000 and there will be one grant of £5,000 available. If you would like to apply, please email benbarker@blueyonder.co.uk after 26th July for an application pack. Closing date for applications is 30th September

Patchwork community gardening
The next session of the Patchwork community gardeners will be on Thursday 26th August. We look after some small green spaces around Bedminster and Southville and over the summer months go out once a month to do weeding, tidying etc. If you'd like to come along, meet us at the Southville Centre at 6.30pm and bring gloves and tools if you have them. We usually garden for about an hour and a half and then go for a drink in the pub.

A date has been set for this year for September 25th for this local 'village' show. Could you volunteer?
Do you have an hour or so a week you could spare? Are you happy to listen to someone and chat about a whole variety of things? Do you appreciate a nice cup of tea? LinkAge are looking for volunteers just like you to visit lonely and isolated people at home in Southville, Bedminster and Ashton. No experience is required as training and support is given. Travel expenses will also be paid. Times are flexible and anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to apply. If you are interested in finding out more, we would love to hear from you. In need of some company?
Do you know someone over 50 who is lonely or isolated? Perhaps a relative or neighbour who would appreciate a visit for an hour or so each week Are you yourself stuck at home and perhaps a bit frustrated by the limitations that can come with getting older? For those living in Southville, Bedminster and Ashton, LinkAge can help. We have a growing group of volunteers who would like to visit an older person. You will need to fill in a form, but we can help with that. Once a person is on our list we will work hard to match them with a suitable volunteer. LinkAge walking group
The group meets every Thursday at various locations in the area to go on 2-3 mile walks. The group is very friendly and is for people over 50 in the Bedminster, Southville and surrounding areas. The walks are suitable for anyone who can walk for an hour without stopping. We usually finish at a cafe for a cup of tea. Bedminster Kids Youth Theatre looking for new members
acta's youth theatre for 9-11 years olds in South Bristol is looking for new members.

South Bristol residents create storybook for children
acta's arts group for over 55s have published their first storybook for children.
The book, entitled 'On Our Street', is based on the puppet show of the same name created and devised by the OPA members and has been distributed around Primary Schools in South Bristol. There are a few copies left, if anyone would like one for their school or community group, please get in touch!
