Greater Bedminster Community Partnership
GBCP has three strategic aims:
1. To encourage local statutory agencies, businesses, community organisations and elected councillors to work together to improve the area. Too often in the past, this has not happened. In practical terms, this means that the various agencies meet regularly to discuss issues and seek answers. Some of these networks are led by statutory agencies, for example, the police take a lead on crime and discorder issues. Other networks are led by community organisations, eg the Bedminster Rivers and Parks Network. For more details on Networks see (link to GBCP Networks)
2. To encourage local people to contribute to improving their own environment, eg by setting a good example, contributing ideas and taking part in community events of all sorts. Among the ways that local people influence their community are voting in elections, joining community groups and making constructive suggestions for improvements. In 2007 GBCP established the Bedminster Issues Forum which is an electronic public meeting to exchange information and views on local topics. We think it's more important to do something than to moan.
3. To treat all residents with respect, even if we disagree with them, and to make sure that particular social groups and individuals are not discriminated against. We are aware, for example, that our current transport systems discriminate against those without ready access to cars, eg older people and those with disabilities. One of our concerns therefore is to improve conditions for pedestrians in the area. We know too that some people in Greater Bedminster encounter racism, sexism or other forms of discrimination. We think that this is unacceptable and, of course, often illegal too.
Although most of the work of the partnership is done through its Networks (see Reports & Research), there is a Co-ordinating Group. Details of current membership is at GBCP Co-ordinating Group. Its rules are shown at GBCP Constitution and minutes of its meetings are shown in Reports & Research.
